About This Webinar

Cardiovascular disease is still the leading cause of death in the US, with 2020 setting a record for deaths due to CVD at close to 1 million. After declining for many years, deaths due to cardiovascular disease have been increasing since 2010 and 80% of these deaths are preventable. LDL-cholesterol is a major modifiable cardiovascular risk factor which continues to be poorly controlled.

The Family Heart Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization focused on research, education, and advocacy for people with the two most common inherited lipid disorders – familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) and elevated lipoprotein (a). From our proprietary Family Heart Foundation Database, we have examined the state of LDL-C control among 38 million Americans at high risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). This session will explore insights from that analysis and propose potential solutions to prioritize LDL control and improve patient outcomes. Additionally, a panelist from Independent Health in Buffalo, New York, will be talking about strategies that Independent Health has employed to improve management of LDL-cholesterol in their plan members.

Finally, we'll discuss opportunities for improvement, including misaligned CMS quality measures, guideline simplification, plan benefit design, prior authorization, and patient out-of-pocket costs; and a recently released Family Foundation white paper entitled, "Prioritizing LDL-cholesterol Control" in conjunction with a Congressional Briefing on October 3 which contains recommendations for payers, practitioners, patients, and policy makers will be made available to all webinar attendees.

Attendees Will Learn About

  • Cholesterol treatment guidelines
  • Current state of LDL-cholesterol control in high-risk Americans
  • Strategies to improve LDL-C control
  • Impact of prior authorization on patient outcomes
  • Impact of current CMS quality measures
