AHIP has addressed a letter to Reps. Brett Guthrie (R-KY) and Debbie Dingell (D-MI), expressing support for their bipartisan legislation, the “EMPOWER Care Act” (H.R. 5306), which proposes a five-year extension of the Money Follows the Person (MFP) demonstration.
The MFP demonstration plays an important role in supporting Medicaid enrollees who want to seamlessly transition from nursing facilities and other institutional settings back to community-based settings. This demonstration also assists states in developing a strong infrastructure that promotes and enhances access to home and community-based services.
Our letter emphasizes that this legislation would “help states achieve greater cost-efficiencies in their Medicaid programs while at the same time enhancing opportunities for individuals to live independently and age with dignity in their homes and communities.”
