Tim Prinz is a Manager within the Strategy & Growth team with a strategic focus on population health, Medicaid, public health, health equity, and value-based care. His diverse career has driven deep healthcare experience, across government, payer, and provider clients. Tim has broad experience working in Medicaid, Medicare and with commercial payers and providers as well, working on program design, implementation, and evaluation. Additionally, he is engaged in building a business case for OAS’s public health and health equity offerings.

Prior to joining OAS, Tim spent eight years at the Lewin Group, a sister company to Optum, serving as a managing consultant on a range of projects on behalf of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI). His diverse experience included serving as the commercial payer lead for the Comprehensive Primary Care Plus (CPC+) project, the largest primary care innovation project produced at CMMI, encompassing over 3000 primary care practices and 44 commercial payers in 18 regions across the country; serving as a value-based care SME and advisor for the Health Care Innovation Awards; and serving as an account lead for the Innovative Care for Kids (InCK) model for the NY and OH projects on behalf of CMMI.

Tim also worked as an independent consultant in New York City for several years, delivering projects for the NYC Department of Health and numerous local clients. During that time, Tim also had the opportunity to contribute to the development of the Affordable Care Act, leading a team of academics and researchers from the Rand Corporation in developing a set of initiatives around public health and prevention – including the Innovation Center – that were ultimately written into the law.

Early in his career, Tim led a Community Health Institute for a Medicaid managed care plan in New York, and worked as a policy analyst on Medicaid managed care in NY and CA. He started his career as an academic, teaching at the University of Virginia. While at UVA, he won an APSA Congressional Fellowship and served in the Office of Minority Leader Tom Daschle as a legislative assistant working on welfare reform and health policy. Tim earned a PhD and MA in Political Science from Harvard University, and a BA in political science and philosophy from the University of Dayton. Tim’s key focus has been on translating research into policy and applying data insights to drive creative solutions to client problems.
