Stephen L. Reintjes, Sr., MD

As president and chief executive officer of North Kansas City Hospital and Meritas Health, Stephen Reintjes Sr., MD, leads an organization committed to meeting the healthcare needs of the Kansas City community with the safest and highest quality of care at every access point.

He oversees a large team of more than 3,000 employees and over 500 physicians who deliver care at more than 30 locations. He directs business development and market growth, quality and care optimization, supply chain sustainability and financial viability.

Steve is a well-respected neurosurgeon and has been an engaged member of the NKCH medical staff for 30 years, beginning in 1989 when he joined the neurosurgery staff. Before becoming president and CEO in May 2020, he led Meritas Health Neurosurgery for seven years.

Steve has held numerous executive leadership positions at the hospital, including director of spine surgery and medical staff president. He currently serves as a board member for Midwest Transplant Network and Missouri Hospital Association.

Steve earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He is a graduate of Georgetown University.
