Michelle Hood is executive vice president and chief operating officer of the American Hospital Association.
Michelle’s leadership oversees the association’s membership recruitment and retention, business development and strategic planning. Though her focus is on value to members and innovation, she also nurtures relationships with members and governmental/private entities that contribute to healthcare transformation.
Her successful career has given her an understanding of the multi-faceted hospital industry. Previously she performed as President and CEO of Northern Light Health based in Brewer, Maine. Northern Light is a $2B integrated, health care delivery system providing services across the entire state of Maine. Prior to that position, she worked as the President and CEO of the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth Health Systems, Montana Region, and has executive experience in academic and Catholic health care systems.
Ms. Hood keeps her outreach going by participating on several boards and committees including the National Center for Healthcare Leadership (NCHL), the National Academy of Medicine’s Climate Collaborative Steering Committee, and the International Hospital Federations’ Geneva Sustainability Centre. Her governance experience also includes a three-year term on the AHA Board of Trustees prior to her staff position and chairmanship of the Maine Hospital Association Board, the University of Maine System Board of Trustees and the Vizient New England Board.
Michelle received a Master of Health Care Administration degree from George State University with her Bachelor of Science from Purdue University.
Michelle brings her experience in academic, national faith-based and rural health care integrated systems to the challenges of today’s rapidly changing environment.
