Dr. Greg Sweat is the Senior Vice President of Health Services, Chief Health Officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC). He is responsible for positioning the company to provide value to its members, partners and community through innovative and affordable patient care. Dr. Sweat oversees Spira Care Centers, population health, networks and contracting, pharmacy, community health and government lines of business.
In his previous role as Chief Medical Officer at the Shawnee Mission Physicians Group, Dr. Sweat directed the multi-specialty group’s services consisting of more than 100 providers in 25 practices serving more than 225,000 patients per year. Prior to that position, he served as a staff physician and assistant professor in the Mayo Clinic’s Department of Family Medicine in Rochester, Minn.
A respected leader in the healthcare industry, Dr. Sweat has received numerous awards throughout his career. In 2022, he was recognized as one of the Heroes in Healthcare by Ingram’s magazine.
He was awarded the Stewardship Award from Shawnee Mission Health and has been honored in Ingram’s magazine’s 40 Under Forty list of local outstanding professionals. Dr. Sweat was also presented with the Excellence in Teaching Award and the Clinician Educator Award from Mayo Medical School.
Dr. Sweat serves on the boards of the United Way of Greater Kansas City and BioNexus KC. He previously served on the boards of the Kansas City Quality Improvement Consortium and the Don Bosco Center. In 2021, he served as the Co-Chair for Red Hot Night to benefit Children’s Mercy Hospital
and as the Co-Chair of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Light the Night walk. He is a member of local chapters of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American Medical Association.
Dr. Sweat earned a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Kansas, a Master of Health Administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Kansas.
