Dr Cary Shames is currently the Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Sharp Health Plan, the top-rated Health Plan in California and one of the top 25 health plans nationally. Dr Shames is responsible for the clinical leadership for one of most respected, comprehensive, integrated health systems in the country. Prior to joining Sharp, Dr. Shames had held leadership positions with Anthem, Aetna, PacifiCare, and Humana.
Dr Shames sits on the Advisory Board with; NAMPC’s Value based benefit Committee, Precision Medicine and Genomic Committee, Oncology Leadership Council, as well as IHA Governance Board and 211 San Diego CIE Advisory Board.
Dr Shames is a board-certified Family physician with over 12 years of practice experience prior to going into health care management. Dr Shames undergraduate training was from LaSalle University and graduate training at the Philadelphia School of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr Shames also is an Associate Professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and presents nationally on improving the health care services and quality provided as well reducing its costs.
