WASHINGTON, D.C. – Matt Eyles, president and CEO of America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), released this statement on new guidance issued today from the Treasury Department around the Chronic Disease Management Act. The policy change would expand the definition of preventive care, allowing health insurance providers to design coverage that better meets the needs of those living with chronic health conditions:
“Every American deserves affordable coverage and high-quality care. For the millions of Americans living with chronic health conditions, such as diabetes or hypertension, this new guidance improves access to affordable medications, treatment and medical equipment – all before patients must meet their deductible. With this new policy, insurance providers will be able to offer enhanced preventive care before facing any deductible costs to help patients better manage their chronic conditions and avoid serious complications. We thank the Administration for taking this important step to improve consumer-driven health plans and expand flexibility so that patients can improve both their health and more affordably get the care they need, when they need it.
“Today, more than 22 million Americans choose to enroll in a HSA-eligible plan because it gives them greater flexibility over their health spending decisions and the ability to save money.”
