WASHINGTON, D.C. – Matt Eyles, president and CEO of America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), issued this statement on the House of Representatives’ passage of the Middle Class Benefits Tax Repeal Act (H.R. 748)– a bipartisan bill that will permanently repeal a 40% excise tax on employer-provided coverage—by a vote of 419-6. Also known as the “Cadillac tax”, this tax would increase costs for most of the 180 million Americans who get their coverage through a job:
“We applaud the House of Representatives for the overwhelming support to repeal the harmful 40% excise tax on health care. This bipartisan solution will help lower deductibles, improve health care access and make coverage more affordable for hundreds of millions of hardworking Americans.
“We urge the Senate to follow suit and pass this bill to improve health care affordability for every American.”
