Health insurance providers are focused on expanding coverage and boosting COVID-19 vaccinations, among other pressing issues, AHIP President and CEO Matt Eyles said on Modern Healthcare’s The Checkup.
Eyles reflected on the past year and what it means for AHIP’s policy priorities in 2021. As the special enrollment period for the individual market kicks off, health insurance providers are squarely focused on ensuring more Americans have the protection and peace of mind that health insurance coverage provides.
“This is a time period where it will be important to get as many people covered as possible and hopefully we can build on that and make some of those changes permanently over the long run.”
Other priorities include supporting Medicare Advantage and Medicaid managed care, and promoting a flexible benefit design for telehealth, Eyles said.
Eyles also touched on the Vaccine Community Connectors pilot initiative, which is designed to ensure that vulnerable Americans get connected with the resources they need to get vaccinated.
“We know how challenging it is to get an appointment and get access and we really want to make sure that we’re doing everything we can to help facilitate appointments, to help overcome any barriers to get to appointments,” Eyles said.
