This prestigious annual designation recognizes 10 minority leaders who have made a measurable impact on health care and have a demonstrated track record of paving the way forward for everyone.

“Every day, John demonstrates an unrivaled passion for a healthy, covered America,” said Matt Eyles, president and CEO of AHIP. “His entire career has been dedicated to making a difference by improving the health of others and this award recognizes his commitment to caring.”

As Chief Operating Officer, John serves as chief of staff, leads AHIP’s business operations, and helps to drive the organization’s strategic planning. “I am beyond honored to receive FierceHealthcare’s 2020 Most Influential Minority Executives in Healthcare award,” said Mathewson. “With any challenge, I believe the most important thing is to start and find the fuel to reach your destination. Today’s award helps fuel my fight for a better, more equitable health care system.”

Before joining AHIP in 2018, he consulted with several organizations to help them build sustainable strategies that improve health, value, and operational efficiency.
