Washington, D.C. – Matt Eyles, president and CEO of America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), issued this statement following the release of a Senate Finance Committee report on out-of-control insulin prices:
Everyone should be able to get the medications they need at a cost they can afford. But out-of-control drug prices, which are set and controlled by drug manufacturers alone, put insulin out of reach for too many of the more than 7 million Americans who rely on it as a life-saving medicine.
This report makes clear that the problem is still the price. While Big Pharma alone controls their prices and can lower them for Americans, drug manufacturers continue to raise their prices, even as the COVID-19 crisis continues to rage across America.
We encourage bipartisan solutions that reduce Big Pharma’s price-dictating monopoly power. We should not have to choose between innovation and affordability. With the right solutions and genuine collaboration, we can have both.
