Washington, D.C. Matt Eyles, President and CEO of America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), issued this statement following the introduction of the Health Insurance Marketplace Affordability Act (H.R. 6545)—legislation aimed at making health insurance coverage more affordable by enhancing subsidies. The bill was introduced by Representatives Stephanie Murphy (D-FL) and Donna Shalala (D-FL).

AHIP commends Representatives Murphy and Shalala for their leadership in ensuring that every American has access to affordable health insurance coverage. Their solution will increase the value of subsidies for millions of Americans, making health coverage more affordable and more accessible during this critical time.

With so many Americans losing their jobs as well as access to health insurance coverage because of COVID-19, it is critical that we work to make coverage options more affordable. Stabilizing current coverage and expanding access to more options will ensure that every American has access to the comprehensive and affordable coverage they deserve.

No one should avoid seeking the care they need when they need it because of costs, especially during this critical time. AHIP is committed to working with state and federal policymakers and partners across the health care industry to defeat and overcome this crisis.
