WASHINGTON, D.C. – Matt Eyles, president and CEO of America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), issued this statement following President Donald J. Trump’s signing of an executive order, Modernizing Influenza Vaccines in the United States to Promote National Security and Public Health:

Americans deserve the most advanced, effective treatments and therapies to help them get and stay healthy. Flu vaccines are proven to save lives – for those who receive vaccines, and by protecting the health of our communities.

We commend the Administration for putting such a priority on modernizing flu vaccines to ensure that Americans are protected from the flu and its complications, which cause tens of thousands of deaths in the U.S. every year.

Nearly all Americans with coverage can receive an annual flu shot with $0 copayment, as part of our industry’s ongoing commitment to better health. Health insurance providers will continue to educate families and communities about the safety and importance of vaccines, and will continue to encourage people to get vaccinated.
