Washington, D.C. – July 25, 2019 – Matt Eyles, president and CEO of America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), issued this statement following the Senate Finance Committee’s vote to send the “Prescription Drug Pricing Reduction Act” to the Senate floor:
“Everyone should be able to get the medications they need at a cost they can afford, especially the 60 million seniors and people with disabilities who rely on Medicare. We thank the Committee for its bold leadership, and for coming together in a bipartisan manner to send the ‘Prescription Drug Pricing Reduction Act’ to the Senate floor.
“These common-sense solutions will keep billions of dollars in seniors’ and taxpayers’ pockets, rather than going toward Big Pharma’s bottom line. We urge the Senate to support these solutions, and to reject efforts to raise premiums and costs for seniors and taxpayers – such as weakening the ability to negotiate lower prices from drug companies on behalf of patients, or reducing drug maker accountability for high prices and costs.
“We look forward to working with members of Congress as they continue to advance these solutions, with a shared goal of improving the health and financial security of Medicare beneficiaries and all Americans.”
