WASHINGTON, D.C. – America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) released this statement on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announcement that Medicare Advantage premiums are projected to be their lowest in 13 years:

Over a third of seniors choose a Medicare Advantage plan because it delivers better services, better care and better value than traditional Medicare. Next year, that number is projected to rise to 24 million Medicare beneficiaries as plan options increase and premiums drop to their lowest level in over a decade.

Medicare Advantage continues to outperform and offer better coverage and care than traditional Medicare, even though the average payment to MA plans is equivalent to costs for traditional Medicare. This announcement is a testament to the innovation by Medicare Advantage plans that has been promoted through greater CMS flexibility, which is driving down costs, enhancing choices, and improving the health of millions of America’s seniors.

We commend the Administration for its commitment to Medicare Advantage and Part D, and we look forward to working together to continue to strengthen and protect this critical program now and in the future.
