Below are excerpts from AHIP President and CEO Matt Eyles’ Opening Remarks at AHIP’s 2022 State of the Industry:

“In a time when Americans are more focused on their health than ever – as they prioritize both their physical and mental well-being – as they fight to finally emerge from a global pandemic – greater health is not just a key policy issue here in Washington. It is an essential national priority as Americans continue to lead on the global stage.

“Over the last year, we have been fighting every day for the people we serve, with a single-minded focus on ensuring they get the affordable, high-quality and equitable health care they need and deserve.

“Our commitment remains strong. And in 2022, we will continue to focus on the policies and solutions that improve affordable access to care.

“We approach this year with a few key priorities in mind. First, ensuring that more Americans have access to affordable coverage and care – for their physical and their mental well-being.

“Second, improving health equity so everyone has an equal opportunity to thrive and achieve their best health.

“Third, we’re working together not just to overcome COVID-19 – but also to develop a clear vision for the post-pandemic health care world.

“Finally, we are focused on supporting a competitive free market.

“America’s health insurance providers are champions of care in 2022 and beyond, and our focus is squarely on the health and well-being of Americans. Everything we do is in service to Guiding Greater Health. And we won’t shrink from the challenges that may face us – the stakes are too high.”
