Patients receiving care from specialty hospitals faced higher average allowed amounts* than patients receiving the same services at non-specialty hospitals.

Differences in average allowed amounts between the two hospital types ranged from $3,009 per patient to $48,811 per patient.

Of 19 medical services studied, only one service, mastectomy surgery, had average allowed amounts significantly lower at specialty hospitals.
