Peace of Mind Delivered by Employer-Provided Coverage

Article

Published Oct 4, 2022 • by AHIP

Recent polling from AHIP’s Coverage@Work campaign found that three-quarters of American adults with employer-provided coverage view their health plans as important to maintaining health and financial security. That peace of mind has been invaluable for working families across the country.

Mike S. from Michigan is a father whose family depends on his employer-provided coverage to access their care. Whether it’s for a routine checkup for one of his three kids or a trip to the emergency room, employer-provided coverage gives him the assurance all parents want when the unexpected happens. “The peace of mind that comes with employer-provided coverage has been so enormously helpful over the years, I don’t know what we would do without it.” He’s grateful for his coverage through work because it has given his family the ability to live “a more flexible life and a less worrisome lifestyle.”

This peace of mind has value on and off the clock. When employees do not have to worry about medical costs associated with worst-case-scenarios while on the job, they have the mental presence they need to perform at their best – benefiting employees and businesses alike. Susan B., President & CEO of Community Services Group in Pennsylvania maintains that “a happy, healthy workforce is a more productive workforce.”

Jessica F. works in the adult behavioral health services industry in Pennsylvania. She also believes that “a culture of wellness is imperative to being able to deliver strong services.” On top of contributing to a healthy culture and helping businesses deliver for their clients, Jessica adds that employer-provided coverage shows her team that “we care for our workforce with the same level of intentionality that we care for the people that we serve in the community.” Offering quality coverage is one the leading ways that employers can demonstrate their commitment to their employees’ well-being.

Washington state economist, Spencer Cohen agrees that employer-provided coverage strengthens communities and economies alike. Health coverage through employment “allows for businesses to provide better physical and mental healthcare for their employees, which has a positive effect on both regional and U.S. economies.”

High-quality, affordable health coverage gives people a sense of economic stability and security that may not have been available to them otherwise. When employees and employers both have peace of mind about coverage, everyone benefits.
